When it comes to how a business deals with you, what they believe in will affect you, sooner or later.
Why is this? It is because beliefs and attitudes effect the decisions that a company makes which affects what you will experience.
Consider some examples.
Attitude to the environment – One of the things that caused me the greatest disgust is that manufacturers have been known to deliberately “degrade” a product by designing a unit for the intended “life” of the unit (make sure the toaster doesn’t last longer than 13 months!). In Kson, we found a manufacturer willing to work with us to create telescopes that last. Kson introduced tri-lock, metal focuser, metal dew shield no plastic units that last, user collimatable lens cells. We prefer our new sales to come from your recommendations – not your broken products.
Attitude to debt – A company that takes on significant debt puts itself under a lot of pressure to succeed at all costs and forces decision-making that is not really in the interests of everyone involved – certainly not customers. Astro Dog is debt free. Really. Even to the ATO. We are under no undue pressure to sell poor products or take business short-cuts and we operate on our own terms.
Attitude to honesty – An honest company will do it’s best to honestly portray its products and what they can do. For example, one well known manufacturer has on the box that “telescopes can be viewed to see the craters on the moon and the rings of Saturn” – but not “this telescope” – so they make no guarantees that you will indeed be able to see the rings of Saturn – but lead the customer to think that they can with that particular scope. We do our best to make sure that we represent our products fairly and honestly.
Attitude to customers – While online ordering is great, I worry when I can’t talk to a real human – or am forced into “email forms” where you just don’t know if or when you will get a response. Astronomy is complex, purchase decisions are not always easy and and things can go wrong – despite the best efforts of everyone involved. When that happens, you want to be able to talk to a real person who can solve your issue – live. Astro Dog have a number you can call where you will be connected to someone who can help.
Attitude to privacy, respect – Do you like handing all your personal information to a bot? We don’t. We do what we can reasonably do to make sure that we only collect what we need. We stopped using google analytics for that reason. We don’t need to know the gender and browsing interests of those who come and visit our site. We trust that if you are interested, you will come. We’d rather hope that you remember us for our service and decency over forced newsletter spam.
