Chris Sutherns (verified owner) –
Having decided it was time to start Autoguiding my HEQ5 Pro mount, I purchased a K’son 8×50 Guide/Finder scope, along with an ASI120mm Mini guide camera. The goodies arrived very well packaged, as usual.
This Scope is a very nicely made unit. Having spent all my working life in the Aluminium Manufacturing Industry, I feel confident in saying that this Scope is manufactured to a high standard, and represents great value for money.
The base is quite accurately made from what looks like an Extrusion that has been machined to close tolerances, and the same comment applies to the supplied rings.
There is quite a lot of adjustment available to align the Scope, and I found alignment quick and easy. There is also forward and rearward adjustment available to assist with balance and viewing The main body of the Scope is also nicely made and is a close fit to the supplied eyepiece. I did find the grub screws holding the eyepiece /camera in position a little fiddly, but they provided a firm hold once nipped in place.
The supplied reticle eyepiece was easy to focus, and has nice Cross-hair type graduations. There is a drilled and tapped “port” to allow attachment of a Reticle illuminator – I had one in my spares box, and all worked well.
The only small issue I had was the Mounting foot, which was not compatible with my Schmidt Cassegrain OTA, so I swapped it for a universal foot, and no problem.
The Optics are very clear, and focus is easily achieved. I would definitely recommend this finder/guide scope.
