Kson 60mm f/20 SKYREACH Refractor with KM-2 Mount System

• ED/APO Fidelity – F/20 and F/15 air-spaced doublet scopes have become almost unobtanium – something we have never understood, and something that should never have happened.  We use an enhanced QK3L/ZF1 glass pairing. At f/15 and f/20, this chemistry virtually eliminates the secondary spectrum, providing color correction that rivals fluorite doublets.  Additionally, these are hand crafted lenses – every surface.  5 knife edge baffles are only found in high end scopes and will give you inky black backgrounds on moon and planets. 3x Super Long Night Shade blocks streetlights and neighbourhood glare. These instruments, long slender instruments combined with very high quality lens glass create visual fidelity with almost no chromatic aberrations appealing to professional users while remaining equally accessible to new users.  As a refractor, it means no collimation, no long ‘cool downs’.  Portable – simple two piece assembly and a superb handle design eliminates the impractical side of a long scope.  1.25″ Focuser.
• Proven KM-2 Mount System –  The KM2 was designed to compete with and beat competitor AZ mount systems.  It is made with steel – not aluminium.  Smooth movements with a proper counterweight system not seen with competitors until you pay double the price.  Up down, left right, with glow in the dark slow motion controls.  You can’t get more straightforward.  60 seconds to set up.
• Superior Accessories –  These scopes are bundled with exclusive 10 and 20mm ‘Deepview’ Bertele  (excellent contrast and edge sharpness and comfortable eye-relief) eyepieces and clicklock system.

 

We can strongly recommend the eyepieces that come with this scope as being ideal – but if you want to push the limit even further, then look at the Matsuyama 1.25″ series that we sell.  These are made in Japan, and are very difficult to obtain here in Australia, and production can stop suddenly, so having a set of these is a good idea.

The Mounts

KSON AZ4 – The Kson KM2 AZ (Alt-Azimuth) mount is Australia’s sturdiest AZ 2 mount, with many users preferring it to most competitor AZ3 mounts.  It sets up easily, uses a simple AZ (up down / left right) system, features a proper counterweight system which allows up to 3.5kg to be mounted and even has classic long, slow motion control system with a glow in the dark knob system (recent upgrade).  Features a 200mm Pier as standard marking it particularly comfortable to use for longer focal length telescopes and those of us who are a bit taller.

The Accessories – Includes 1.25″ 10mm and 20mm Bertele Deepview Eyepieces.  These are special eyepieces that are diffraction limited edge to edge for planetary contrast.  Includes 1.25″ Centrelock 90 degree mirror diagonal.

If your not an experienced Astronomer, get the “Backyard Astronomers Guide” it’s just so, so useful.

Purchase a Tripod Stabiliser.  Just $50 and you will thank us later and forever.  They are amazing.

The Kson Starter Pack S is great value (50% off) and can only be bought at the same time as with a Package, so go for it.  When purchased WITH THIS PACKAGE ONLY, you can choose to swap out the 2 eyepieces and diagonal include for either the 26mm 5 element Kson Eyepiece (strongly recommended) or the Kson 1.25″ 40mm Plossl (strongly recommended).  Indicate your preference on checkout.  You will retain the 6x30mm Finder which complements the package perfectly.

Get an Astronomy Headlamp (they are nothing like the ones in the shops – these are extra dim red lights to preserve night vision when changing eyepieces or reading charts and have separate red and white controls so your not blinded by white light) or Night Reader Pro (clips onto key ring – terribly useful).

Kson Starter Pack W – This new pack can only be bought with a package, so again, go for it if you can.  This includes professional filters including the 495nm filter mentioned below, as well as a #12, #58, #25A, #21 filters.  These suppress certain visual areas while increasing the contrast of others and are very much recommended for specific solar system targets.  See https://www.astrodog.com.au/advice/wratten-filter-kits/ for more details.   For Mars Season: The #21 Orange and #25A Red are mandatory.  For Jupiter/Saturn: The #12 Yellow and #58 Green will show you weather patterns you are currently missing.

Other good items : the 495nm filter is always of interest with any achro for the contrast boosting ability , a light eyepiece case.  Maybe some Mozzie Repellant.
